Discover Our Quieter Hour: A More Accessible Shopping Experience

We first introduced Quieter Hour in July 2018, creating a calmer shopping experience for customers who may find the usual sights, sounds and pace of supermarkets overwhelming. We have since extended Quieter Hours to also run between 2pm-3pm every Monday to Friday, plus 9am-10am on Saturdays and first hour of trading on Sunday so that even more people can benefit.

This initiative was originally developed in partnership with the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour campaign. Since then, it has grown to support a wide range of customers — including people with sight or hearing impairments, physical disabilities, neurodiverse people, and anyone who simply prefers a calmer, quieter environment.

During Quieter Hours, the majority of Morrisons stores:

  • Lower the lighting where possible.

  • Turn off music and radio.

  • Avoid making tannoy announcements.

  • Reduce movement of trolleys and baskets.

  • Turn down checkout beeps and other electronic noises.

  • Display posters at the entrance to let customers know it’s Quieter Hour.

  • Ensure staff are on-hand to offer more assistance if needed.

By reducing noise and lowering sensory demands, Quieter Hour helps make shopping less stressful and more accessible for everyone.
